1. The regular price of a pair of boots is $125.95, but they are on sale for 30% off.  What is the amount of money that you will save? (round to the nearest cent)

2. A bank offers 2% interest each month on all savings accounts.  If your account balance is $1065.50 how much interest would you get this month?

3. It costs a company $0.95 to make a t-shirt, but they sell it in a store for $5.99.  What is the percent that the item is marked up when sold in the store? ( Round to the nearest percent)

4. At a restaurant they include the tip on the bill of you have more than 10 people in your party.  One group of 12 people had a tip of $30.34 placed on their bill of $168.56.  At the same restaurant another group of 15 people had a bill of $184.25.  What would the tip be added on to that bill? Show your work.

5. A furniture store is having a weekend sale that allows customers to buy all pieces of furniture in the store for 85% of the original price.  Karen has $625 to spend on a new kitchen table.  If she picks out a table that originally costs $700, does she have enough money (before taxes) to buy the table?  Show your work.

Part B) If the tax rate is 7% does, she still have enough money to buy the table?

6. Bruce plays basketball and averages 20 points per game during the regular season that has 12 games.  The school record for points in a season is held by Nick and he had scored 275 points.  If Bruce increases the amount of points he scored each game by 15% describe how close he will be to breaking the record.  Show your work.

7. Jason bought a coat that cost $ 25.00, but after taxes were added the cost was $27.25.  If he wanted to add a pair of shoes that cost $39.00 what would his total cost be?  Show your work.

5. Yes she has enough money to buy the kitchen table before taxes, but not enough with tax added on.  Student work might include but is not limited to

• $700 •0.85 = $595 this is the price of the table before taxes
• Tax $595 • 0.07 = $41.65
• $595 + 41.65 = $ 636.65 total with tax
• $636.65 > $625 so she can’t get the table with the amount of money she has.

6. Bruce will break the school record by one point. Student work might include, but is not limited to

• Points this season 12 • 20 = 240 points
• Increase each game 15% - 20 • 0.15 = 3 more points each game
• Next season he will average 20 + 3 = 23 points per game
• He will score 23 • 12 = 276 point during the season
• Bruce will break the old school record by one point if he increases the points per game by 15 %.

7. The total cost for the coat and shoes is $69.76.  If he pays with $100, his change due back to him would be $30.24.  Student work might include, but is not limited to

• Find the tax amount paid $27.25 – 25.00 = $ 2.25
• Find the tax percentage rate $2.25 ÷ 25.00 = 0.09
• The rate at is 0.09 = 9%
• Total of both items is $25 + 39 = $64.00
• Tax amount $64.00 • 0.09 = $5.76
• Total cost $64.00 + $ 5.76 = $69.75
• Change from $100 – 69.76 = $30.24
