Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  1. Write an expression to find the cost of b books at $12 each
  1. Karen bakes the same number of pies every day. Write an expression to show the total number of pies she made in a week.
  1. Write an expression to show a library has ten more mystery books than twice the number of biographies.
  1. Write an expression to show the total cost you would have to pay a babysitter that charges $12 per hour plus $10 in gas to drive herself to your house.

  2.  You need to hire a lawn cutting services this summer.  You pay them $800 for the entire summer.  Each time they cut your lawn it costs you $35. Write an expression to see how many times they can cut your lawn before your $800 runs out.

  3. Your pet cat needs to have the litter changed in the litter box each week.  Every week you use 6 pounds of litter.  If the bag of litter weighs 54 pounds, write an expression to show how many weeks the bag will last

  1. Jake is 3 years older than his sister Nora.  Nora is  the age of her mother.  If her mother is m years old, write an expression to show how old Jake is.

  2. Javier wants to have a birthday party at Jump Play Center.  The fee for a party is $75 and includes 5 people. If any extra people are invited the cost is $10 per person.  Write an expression to find the cost of any amount of guests invited to Javier’s birthday party.
