Authors make intentional decisions regarding the reading elements in a text. In this unit, you will begin to evaluate these elements using text-dependent analyses. Text-dependent analysis responses should point out the author's specific choices, describe how and why the author made those choices, and for what particular reasons, to explain their significance and/or impact, then draw a conclusion about the author's meaning or message.


You will be analyzing author's decisions and craft specifically through articles and excerpts that highlight good decisions. Some of these articles will review specific actions and decisions that have impacted history. Some will analyze characters and how their traits led to these decisions. Throughout the course of this unit, you should be thinking about how good decisions have shaped the world, and how you can apply the lessons to your own life.

What specific choices, as they relate to reading elements, does an author make to help a reader understand a text?

What is the intended outcome of authors choosing specific words, structures and details
