Description

Echo Reading is a strategy teachers use to model oral reading. The teacher reads a line of a story or passage and the student echoes it using the same phrasing and tone. It helps the student focus on the print and helps the reader to read more fluently. It is especially beneficial for students who are:
  • Slow readers who need to hear language read in "thought units" and hear language read fluently.
  • Passive readers who are lost in the language flow, that is, they are caught up in what the words should sound like individually.
