Description
The Lower Devonian Manlius limestone contains the organic shell remains from ostracods. These crustaceans are very common in the Manlius carbonates. They may have tolerated stressful environmental conditions, such as those with high salinity water. The Ostracoda have the most complete fossil record of any crustacean. They were most abundant during the Silurian Period. They are one of the most successful animal groups, with approximately 8000 recognized living species.
