Description
For a time in the 19th century, most of the nation's millstones were cut in the Shawangunk Mountains from the local Shawangunk conglomerate of the Mid-Hudson Valley. Many were shipped via the D & H canal and later by railroad. In 1893, a millstone this large (about 5 feet in diameter) would have cost about $100.
