Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons

  1. Humans get the energy they need to survive from the foods they eat.

  2. Plants get the energy they need to survive through photosynthesis.

  3. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
    • I eat food.
    • The food goes into my stomach where it mixes with stomach acid.
    • The stomach acid helps to break down the food.
    • In my small intestine, my body absorbs nutrients from the food I eat.
    • The nutrients enter my blood stream, and my circulatory system carries the nutrients to my body parts that need them.

  4. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
    • Molecules such as fats, sugars, and proteins enter a cell.
    • Chemical reactions take place within the cell, and ATP is created.
    • Cells use ATP as an energy source to carry out necessary functions.

    • Plants need sunlight to grow.
    • I eat plants.
    • The plants I eat give my body energy to survive.
    • If there was no sunlight, there would not be any plants for me to eat.
    • I eat animals.
    • The animals eat plants.
    • The plants give animals the energy they need to survive.
    • If there was no sunlight, there would not be any plants animals to eat.
