Continuum of Activities
The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

- Define sentence fragments.
- Define run-on sentences.
- Categorize sentences in a passage as fragment or run on.
- Review and edit writing to eliminate fragments and run ons. Identify run ons and fragments, and make edits to resolve them.
Answer Key/Rubric
- Student defines sentence fragment as a string of words that cannot stand alone as a full thought. The sentence may be missing a subject and/or a verb.
- Student defines run on sentence as one that contains two or more independent clauses without appropriate punctuation or a conjunction.
