Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Last weekend you went on a bike ride in your neighborhood.  On Saturday you rode mile.  On Sunday you rode an additional mile.  What is the total distance that you rode your bike on the weekend?
  2. On Saturday you bought a bag of candy that weighed pound.  During the week you ate pound of candy.  How many pounds of candy do you have left?
  1. Use the fraction cards to make one true addition and one true subtraction equation. Explain your choices.

 

  1. Is the following statement correct?   Explain your answer.

  • To add fractions with like denominators, you add the numerators and keep the denominators.
  • To subtract fractions with like denominators, you subtract the numerators and keep the denominators.

  • I looked for numerators that made correct subtraction sentences.

       Reasons might include, but are not limited to:

  • The numerators were added correctly but not the denominators.
  • You do not add denominators when adding fractions together.
  • To add fractions with like denominators, add the numerators and keep the denominator.
