Continuum of Activities
The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.
This continuum of activities offers:
- Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
- Questions/activities that grow in complexity
- Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities
- Identify one characteristic of a cloud.
- How does a cloud form?
- Predict what might happen with the weather if you see a dark cloud.
- A cloud is fluffy and white. Infer what the weather might be like that day.
- As you are walking home, you see dark clouds heading in your direction. Construct a plan of action for what you might do.
- “You cannot tell the weather by looking at clouds”. Critique this statement.
Answer Key/Rubric
- Any response about shape, size, and/or color is acceptable.
- A cloud forms when water droplets condense in the air.
- Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
- A storm might approach.
- It might rain.

- It will probably be sunny.
- The weather will probably be nice out and there will not be rain.

- Since I see a dark cloud, I can infer it might rain or storm.
- I will get home as fast as I can.

- I might warn my family about the storm.

- While you may not be able to definitely tell the weather, clouds can give us great clues as to what the weather will be like.
- A dark cloud normally means rain or a storm.
- A white, fluffy cloud normally means nice weather.
