Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Identify the three layers of soil.

  1. Hummus is the decayed parts of plant and animals.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Soil is valuable to farmers because it has nutrients that help plants grow.
  • Without the nutrients in soil, plants will not be able to grow as well.
  • This could hurt the farmer’s crops.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Decomposed organic material, like hummus, is an important part of soil.
  • It has nutrients that help plants grow strong.
  • Without this material, plants might not grow as tall or strong.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • This statement is correct.
  • The process of decay is when living things break down the remains of plants and animals.
  • The remains give plants the nutrients they need to grow.
