Continuum of Activities
The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.
This continuum of activities offers:
- Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
- Questions/activities that grow in complexity
- Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities
- Who will be the audience for this writing?
- What is the purpose of this writing?
- Use a graphic organizer to categorize and organize the information.
- Read the sample informational text. How is the information organized?
- Write an introduction that will allow the reader to focus on the topic of the writing.
- Revise the introduction. Work to improve word choice and to make the topic clearer.
Answer Key/Rubric
- Students will identify the person(s) that will be reading this piece of writing.
- Students will tell whether the writing is meant to inform or explain.
- Students will choose appropriate categories and organize the information into these categories. A graphic organizer will be used to aid in this process.
- Students will read a sample informational text, focusing on the organization of the information. They will determine the way the information is grouped.
- Students will write an introduction that will state the topic of the writing. This beginning will provide a focus for the rest of the writing.
- Students will make corrections and revisions. These changes should improve the focus and/or style of the introduction. Students will utilize writing strategies to “hook” the reader, while making it clear what the central idea is.
