  1. What is system feedback?
  1. How are system output and system feedback related?
  1. Mary argues that the human body is a good example of a system that uses feedback.  Give an example to support her statement.  Make sure to also explain the system input, process, and output that is related to the feedback.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. System feedback occurs when the output of a system is communicated back to the system input mechanism.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
    • System output is product that is created by a system.
    • System feedback occurs when the output of a system is communicated back to the system input mechanism.
    •  The system will then adjust itself based on this feedback to achieve the desired output.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
    • Body temperature:  The body becomes too hot.  The brain sends a signal.  The body begins to sweat.  As the sweat evaporates, the body cools down.  The body temperature drops.  Eventually, the sweating will also stop.
    • Pain:  The skin touches something.  Nerve endings feel pain and send a message to the brain.  The brain sends impulses to the muscles to move.  When the skin is no longer in contact with the object that initially caused the pain, the pain will stop.
