Activities
- Which equation best represents the line graphed below?
- y = x + 8
- y = x
- y = x – 1
- y = x – 15
- Identify the slope and y-intercept for the following equations:
- y = 2x + 4
- y = -3x
- y = x - 1
- Given the two equations: y = ½x – 2 and y = ½x, compare and contrast what their graphs would look like.
- Describe the graph of y = mx + b.
Answer Key/Rubric
- C
- Answers as follows:
- Slope: 2; y-intercept: (0, 4)
- Slope: -3; y-intercept: (0, 0)
- Slope: 1; y-intercept: (0, -1)
- Acceptable answers may include, but are not limited to:
- Both graphs will have the same slope of ½
- The two lines are parallel to one another and will never cross
- The only difference between these lines is where they cross the y-axis
- The graph of y = ½x – 2 will cross the y-axis at the point (0, -2)
- The graph of y = ½x will cross the y-axis at the origin (0, 0)
- Acceptable answers may include, but are not limited to:
- Line has a slope of m
- Line crosses the y-axis at (0, b)
