Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student identifies a writer’s stated opinion or presented topic in a specific piece of writing about a text. Citing direct evidence from a specific analysis of a text, the student determines the writer’s opinion or topic of the analysis. The writer’s opinion or topic of the analysis includes the complex ideas or concepts about a text the writer explores in detail.

  2. Student identifies the purpose of a concluding section in a written analysis of a text. The purpose of a concluding section is to reinforce the stated opinions, ideas, and concepts used by a writer to analyze a text.

  3. Student identifies the relationship between a concluding section and other sections of a specific written analysis of a text. The concluding section of a written analysis relates to the other sections because it summarizes and reinforces the stated opinions, ideas, and concepts the writer developed in other sections of the piece.

  4. Student distinguishes a concluding section from other sections of a specific written analysis of a text. A concluding section is distinct from other sections of a written analysis because the writer avoids introducing in the conclusion new opinions, ideas, or concepts that have not been previously introduced to the reader.

  5. Student constructs a concluding section for a written analysis of a text that follows from and supports the analysis presented. The concluding section constructed displays evidence of thoughtful choices made by the student to rationally reinforce the facts, ideas, and concepts presented in the analysis. These choices include the use of concise language for clarity.

  6. Student evaluates the concluding section of a written analysis of a text to determine if it logically follows from and supports the analysis presented. Using direct evidence from a concluding section to a written analysis of a text, the student considers whether the section follows from and relates to the information and ideas analyzed in the written piece.
