Continuum of Activities
The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.
This continuum of activities offers:

- Students will identify the sentence that contains an abstract noun. They will demonstrate that they can differentiate between abstract nouns and nouns that name people, places and things.
- Students will identify the abstract nouns in the sentences. They will demonstrate that they can differentiate between abstract nouns and nouns that name people, places and things.
- Students should explain that abstract nouns are ideas, and can’t be observed with their senses. They do not name people, places, or things as other nouns do.
- Students will be given a list of nouns. They will create a graphic organizer that has the categories person, place, thing, and abstract (idea). They will write the nouns in the appropriate place on the graphic organizer.
- Students will draw a picture that represents the abstract noun they chose. The picture should contain elements that define the abstract noun. Others should be able to name the abstract noun that was illustrated.
- Students will follow the given format to create a cinquain poem about an abstract noun of their choice. They will create a visual interpretation of this abstract noun using words.
