Continuum of Activities
The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

Activities
Given two stories with the same or similar characters:
- What main character in Book A is also in Book B?
- Describe the setting in each story.
- Compare/contrast the themes from both stories.
- Explain how the character is the same and different in the two stories.
- Describe how the character’s actions in the first story lead to events in the second story.
- Based on the character’s behaviors at the end of the story, what would you expect to happen in another story about this character?
Answer Key/Rubric
- Students will name a character that is in both books.
- Students will tell where and when each story takes place. They should note whether the settings are the same or different, and provide appropriate examples.
- Students will identify the themes from both stories. They will describe how they are alike or how they are different, and provide appropriate examples.
- Students will compare and contrast the character’s behaviors and feelings in the two stories. They will provide specific details from each story to support the comparison.
- Students will describe the character’s behaviors in the first story that led to events in the second story. They will explain how those behaviors were connected to the second story.
- Students will make a prediction of what would happen in another story about the character in a previously read story. They will include details from the author’s story to use as a basis for their prediction.
