- Students should be able to remove any affixes to reveal root words.
- Students should use the meaning of the prefix and the meaning of the root word to explain the meaning of the newly constructed word. They should compare the meanings of the root word with the new word.
- Students will choose the correct form of a word to complete a sentences. They will need to apply their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes to determine the meanings of their choices. They will then use context clues to decide which choice works best to complete the sentence.
- Students should tell the meaning of the word. They should then explain how they used the meaning of the prefix, the meaning of the suffix, and the meaning of the root word to determine the meaning of the word.
- Students should explain that prefixes are word parts that can be added to the beginnings of words. Students should explain that suffixes are word parts that can be added to the endings of words. They should tell that prefixes and suffixes have definitions, and these definitions should be applied to the meanings of the root words that they are attached to.
