- Humans get the energy they need to survive from the foods they eat.
- Plants get the energy they need to survive through photosynthesis.
- Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
- I eat food.
- The food goes into my stomach where it mixes with stomach acid.
- The stomach acid helps to break down the food.
- In my small intestine, my body absorbs nutrients from the food I eat.
- The nutrients enter my blood stream, and my circulatory system carries the nutrients to my body parts that need them.

- Molecules such as fats, sugars, and proteins enter a cell.
- Chemical reactions take place within the cell, and ATP is created.
