Description
An emotional appeal is material (or content) that causes a particular emotional response in the reader, and this causes the reader to take some action. For example, an article about the local animal shelter's lack of food and supplies will appeal to the emotions of animal lovers. They may respond by making a donation to the shelter or volunteering to help take care of the rescued animals.
People have strong emotional responses to children, family, wealth, power, sex, and beauty and are often moved to action by writing that includes these qualities. This is a subjective appeal. This means that each reader responds according to his or her particular inner sensitivity to and experience with the different emotional topics. For example, a reader who had been bitten by an unleashed dog might not be moved by the opportunity to help care for animals like that.
