Sunlight provides the energy that autotrophs use to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. These products of photosynthesis are used by heterotrophs in cellular respiration and released as carbon dioxide and water. The products of one are the reactants of the other. Without plants animals would not survive and without animals plants would not survive.
