Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Explain how the tilt of the Earth is related to the seasons.
  1. During your summer vacation from school, your friend is traveling to Australia.  What do you suggest he brings with him to wear?  Why should he bring these clothes?

  6. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:

    • The Earth’s axis is tilted about 23°.

    • When the Sun’s rays hit the Earth more directly, this hemisphere has summer.

    • When a hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun, the Sun’s rays hit it more directly, and it is summer.

    • When it is summer in the Northern hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern hemisphere.

    • When it is summer in the Southern hemisphere, it is winter in the Northern hemisphere.
