Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Which type of cloud is wispy, forms high in the sky, and appears shortly before a change in the weather?

  2. Which type of cloud is fluffy and is often seen in good weather?

  3. Which type of cloud forms close to Earth in flat layers and often means stormy weather?
  1. What does the term nimbus mean?  How can it be related to other clouds?

  2. What do you think the sky would look like if a rainstorm were on its way?
  1. Airplanes fly higher than the clouds.  Why do you think they do this?  Draw at least 2 conclusions based on what you know about clouds.

  4. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:

    • Nimbus clouds are rain clouds.

    • Other cloud types are cumulus, stratus, and cirrus.

    • Any of the cloud types can carry rain.

    • If a cloud carries rain, “nimbus” is added to its name to indicate it is carrying rain.


  5. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:

    • Dark clouds

    • Lots of clouds

    • Big clouds

    • Clouds with jagged edges

    • No sun
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:

    • Fly above the clouds

    • Clearer view

    • Keep above rain and storm clouds

    • Above wind
