Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Define a wetland.

  2. Name three types of bodies of water where you will find fresh water.

  3. Name two types of bodies of water where you will find salt water.
  1. What do you think would happen if a fish that only lived in salt water is moved to a fresh water lake?  Why do you think this would happen?

  2. How are a lake and an ocean alike?  How are they different?
  1. Your friend argues that fresh water is more important than salt water.  Do you agree or disagree?  Use at least three facts to explain your opinion.

  1. A wetland is land that is covered with water or has wet soil for all or part of the year.

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
    • Fish would die because fresh water fish cannot breathe in salt water.
    • Fish would adapt and learn to be able to breathe in salt water.

    • Both are bodies of water.
    • Both are home to many plants.
    • Both are home to many animals.
    • Both have tides.
    • Lakes are enclosed by land.
