Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

  1. You just bought a fish aquarium for your house.  If you need to leave inches of space open at the top so that the water level isn’t going to overflow, how much space do you need to fill with water? Show your work.
  1. You are helping your little brother pick up his toy blocks.  The blocks are cubes and each side measures 3 in.  The toy chest that you have to put them in measures  in by in by 12in.  Your brother has 100 blocks to put away, will they all fit in the toy chest? Show your work.

  • Take away inches from the height of the aquarium. You need to subtract
    inches for the new height
  • Use the new height to find the volume of the tank.

  • Yes, the box is big enough because it can hold 3139 in3 and the blocks will only need 2700 in3 of space.
