Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  • Verbs used in the active voice signify action performed by the subject of a sentence. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • Read
    • Taught
    • Sang
  • Verbs used in the passive voice signify action that is performed to or on the subject of a sentence. Verbs in the passive voice are past participles with a form of the verb “to be” proceeding it. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • Was read
    • Were taught
    • Is sung

  • Student lists verbs in the conditional mood. Verbs used in the conditional mood express a condition of possibility. These include words such as could, might, or should to express the condition. For example, “I could finish my homework if it were quiet.”
  • Student lists verbs in the subjunctive mood. Verb used in the subjunctive mood express a wish or a desire. For example, “If I did not have to do my homework, I would watch TV.”
