Continuum of Activities

Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Identify the details of a given reading passage.

  2. Recognize details from a reading passage given.
  1. Infer details from a given text.

  2. Summarize a given reading passage.
  1. Draw conclusions using a reading passage provided.

  2. Cite evidence in summary of a reading passage.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student identifies specific examples and details from the reading passage provided.  The student should identify main ideas and supporting details separately.

  2. Student recognizes details from the reading passage given.  Student should be able to identify specific examples from the text.

  3. Student infers details from a text using supporting details/examples from the text.  Student can infer main idea from details provided in the reading passage.

  4. Student summarizes reading passage citing details and clues provided in the reading passage. Student should provide concrete examples from the text.  Student should draw inferences and use details from the text to support the inference.

  5. Student is able to arrive at a conclusion for the reading passage provided using context clues and details from the story.  Student may or may not need to infer this conclusion depending on the specifics of the text.  Student should use details from the passage to support inference or conclusion. 

  6. Student cites evidence from the reading passage when summarizing.  The summary should include some specific examples from the text.  Inferences drawn should be supported by references from the text to support the claim.
