Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Gravitational force is a force that attracts objects with a mass.

  2. Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation states that every object in universe is pulling on every other object in the universe.
  1. The greater the mass, the stronger the gravitational pull.  More massive objects pull on less massive objects (such as the Earth and Moon).

  2. The greater the distance between two objects, the weaker the gravitational pull.
  1. Sample response: Gravitational pull is dependent on the mass of the objects and the distance between them.  Although the Sun is more massive, our distance to the Earth is much less, the small distance would override the difference of their masses.

  2. Sample response: Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation states that every object in the universe is pulling on each other.  Although our distance from Earth would increase, there would still be a gravitational pull between us and Earth, it would never be zero.
