Activities
- Identify one physical characteristic a human could pass on to their offspring.
- Identify one physical characteristic of a tiger.
- Make an inference about why height is an important trait for a giraffe to pass on.
- A dog that has a short coat has a baby with a dog who has a long coat of hair. Predict what the baby will be like.
- Develop a logical argument about why it is important that parents pass on traits to offspring.

- The dog could have inherited a mixture of the two coats, and have medium hair.
- Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
- It is important that parents pass down traits to their offspring so that important traits continue in the family.
- Some traits may help their offspring get food.
- Other traits may help the offspring survive in different ways.
- Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
- The male giraffe is tall, and the female giraffe is average height, so the baby being short may not be the best prediction.
- The baby giraffe could be tall, like its dad.
- The baby giraffe could be average height, like its mom.
