Continuum of Activities

Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Identify the function of the heart in humans.

  2. Name two parts of a plant.
  1. Cause: the roots of a plant take in water. What is a possible effect?
  1. Animals have many different parts that work together. Two parts are the heart and the skeleton. Compare the functions of the heart to the functions of the skeleton.
  1. Animals use their lungs to breathe. Draw conclusions about what would happen if an animal hurt their lungs. 
  1. Formulate an argument to support the statement: “The skeleton is a very important part of the human body.”

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • The heart is a muscle that sends blood around your body.
  • The blood from the heart gives your body oxygen and nutrients.
  • It also carries away waste.

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Stem, root, flowers, leaves, seeds and fruit

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Effect: the plant receives water.
  • Effect: the plant grows bigger.
  • Effect: the plant stores water in its body.

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • The heart sends blood to the body.
  • The skeleton protects the body.
  • Both are important parts of a body that work together.

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • If an animal hurt its lung, it may have a hard time breathing.
  • Difficulty breathing may affect the rest of the body.
  • Animal could die if it cannot breathe properly

  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • The skeleton protects the rest of the body
  • The skeleton gives us strength so we can stand up.
  • Without a skeleton, we would just flop around.
  • All bones have a job to do.
